Most remodeling companies pay $1,500 to $3,500 a month for SEO in 2026. HomeShowOff publishes that range for remodeling. It lines up with Ahrefs’ survey of 439 SEO providers, which puts the average local-focused retainer at $1,557 a month.
But the monthly number decides almost nothing.
What decides it is how many months you pay before the first job lands, and what one signed job is worth to you. A remodeler closing $55,000 kitchens runs different math than one closing $8,000 bathrooms.
Here is what remodeling SEO actually costs in 2026, with every figure sourced and dated, plus the math to check it against your own job value.
What remodeling SEO costs in 2026
Here is every published number I could find with a name attached to it.
| What it is | Monthly cost | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Local-focused SEO providers, average | $1,557 | Ahrefs, 439 providers surveyed |
| All agencies, average across verticals | $3,209 | Ahrefs, 439 providers surveyed |
| Remodeling, published per-trade range | $1,500 to $3,500 | HomeShowOff |
| Home Remodeler SEO, published tiers | $1,250 to $3,500+ | Their public price page |
| Share of all providers charging under $2,000 | 68.8% | Ahrefs, 439 providers surveyed |
Two things stand out. The low end of the market sits near $1,250, and the honest middle is close to $2,500.
Anything under $750 a month is not SEO. It is a reporting dashboard and a monthly email.
Why nobody can quote you a real remodeling average
There is no survey of remodeling SEO retainers. Not one.
Ahrefs surveyed 439 providers and did not break out verticals. Backlinko surveyed 300+ and did not either. So every page telling you “remodeling SEO costs $X” is showing you a rate card, not market data.
You can check that yourself. One agency currently publishes $1,000 to $2,500 a month for small local remodelers on its bathroom page, and $800 to $1,500 on its kitchen page. Same agency, same buyer, same month, two different answers.
So treat every range you read, including mine, as a starting point you verify against your own numbers.
What you actually get at each price
| Monthly | What it covers | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|
| $750 to $1,250 | Google Business Profile, citations, 1 to 2 pages a month, basic reporting | One city, low competition, under $500K revenue |
| $1,500 to $2,500 | The above plus technical fixes, service pages, city pages, review system, link building | One metro, 2 to 5 cities, $1M to $3M revenue |
| $2,500 to $4,000 | The above plus multi-city rollout, content at volume, digital PR, conversion work | Top-25 metro or 6+ cities, $3M+ revenue |
| $4,000+ | The above plus multi-location management and dedicated strategy | Multiple showrooms or multiple states |
The jump that matters is from the first tier to the second. Below $1,500 nobody is touching your site code, and 94% of the remodeling sites we audit have a title tag problem hiding pages from Google.

The number that actually matters is cost per booked job
Cost per lead lies to you. Divide by the share of leads that book, and the picture flips.
Across the 87 remodeling campaigns we have run since 2019, organic leads turn into booked estimates 73% of the time. Shared directory leads book at 22% to 31%.
| Channel | Cost per lead | Books at | Real cost per booked estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Search Ads | $90.92 (WordStream, 2026) | Varies by follow-up | Depends on your close rate |
| Construction and contractor search ads | $165.67 (LocaliQ) | Varies by follow-up | Depends on your close rate |
| Shared directories (Angi, HomeAdvisor) | $87 to $142 (client-reported) | 22% to 31% | About $280 to $645 |
| Organic search + Google Business Profile | $0 marginal after ranking | 73% | About $0 marginal |
Client-reported figures across Eclipse Remodeling campaigns. Results vary by market, competition, and client engagement. Past performance does not guarantee identical future results.
The two paid figures come from different panels. WordStream’s 2026 benchmarks cover 13,474 US campaigns from April 2025 to March 2026 and put Home and Home Improvement at $90.92 a lead. LocaliQ’s home services benchmarks cover 3,211 campaigns and put Construction and Contractors at $165.67.
Neither one breaks out remodeling on its own. Anyone quoting you a remodeling-specific cost per lead is guessing.
We ran the same math by channel for one trade in bathroom remodeling lead generation cost, if you want the worked version.

Your homeowner takes 9.6 months to decide
This is the number that should change how you judge an SEO invoice.
Houzz surveyed 17,713 US homeowners who renovated and found the average kitchen planning phase runs 9.6 months. Primary bathrooms run 6.7 months. Their exact wording: homeowners spend about twice as long planning as building.
So a homeowner reads your cost guide in February and calls you in November. Last-click attribution gives that job to whatever they clicked last, usually a branded search or a Google Ad.
If you judge SEO on a 30-day or 90-day window, you will cancel it right before it pays. Set the window at 12 months minimum.
Run the break-even against a real job
Take the market midpoint of $2,500 a month. That is $30,000 over a year.
Now put your job values next to it. Houzz’s 2026 Kitchen Trends Study puts the median major kitchen remodel at $55,000 and a minor one at $20,000. Zonda’s Cost vs Value data puts a midrange bath at $26,138 and a midrange major kitchen at $82,793.
So one median major kitchen covers about 22 months of a $2,500 retainer at revenue. Two midrange baths cover about 21 months.
Then apply your own gross margin, because revenue is not profit. That is the only version of this math that means anything, and it is the version almost no agency will do with you on a call.
The 12-month spend curve nobody shows you
Every pricing page shows a flat monthly retainer. The work is not flat.
| Months | Where the money goes | What you should see |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Technical audit and fixes, Google Business Profile rebuild, core service pages, tracking setup | Keywords start moving in 30 to 60 days |
| 4 to 6 | City pages, review system, first links, content cadence | Map pack entry averages 4.2 months in a mid-competition metro |
| 7 to 9 | Content depth, link building, conversion fixes | Steady inbound leads in most markets |
| 10 to 12 | Expansion into second and third cities, competitive keywords | 78% of our clients are in the map pack by month 6, and the rest by here |
In a top-25 metro, map pack entry averages 6.8 months instead of 4.2. Bigger city, longer runway, same monthly cost.
Anyone promising page one in 90 days is selling you month 12 at month 3 prices.
The full timeline breakdown sits in our lessons from 87 remodeling campaigns.

What changed in 2026 that breaks the old ROI math
Most cost guides still price SEO against a 2023 search results page. That page no longer exists.
Sterling Sky’s State of Local SEO 2026 tracked what changed:
- AI local packs show 1 to 2 businesses instead of 3, and they have no call buttons
- Across 322 markets, AI packs surfaced 32% fewer unique businesses, 5,943 against 18,330
- Local Services Ads went from 11% of tracked queries in January 2025 to 31% in November 2025
- Local pack ads went from 1% of mobile reports to 22% in the same period
On top of that, Semrush found that commercial-intent results carrying AI Overviews grew 71% over six months, across 600,000+ keywords.
And Pew Research, tracking real browsing across 68,879 searches, found people clicked a result 8% of the time when an AI summary appeared, against 15% when it did not.
So there are fewer organic slots and fewer clicks per slot. The prize shrank.
What did not shrink is the value of getting named in the answer. Seer Interactive, across 5.47M queries, found pages cited inside an AI Overview earn about 2.1% click-through against 0.9% for pages that are not. Getting cited roughly doubles the click.
When you should not buy SEO yet
Sometimes the honest answer is that you cannot buy SEO this month.
Across the remodeling sites we audit, 94% have missing or duplicate title tags, 68% have no schema markup, and 41% score below 40 for mobile speed. Paying a retainer on top of a site like that funds a cleanup you could have scoped as a one-time project.
Run the SEO checklist for remodeling companies first. If more than half of it fails, fix the site before you sign anything monthly.
SEO against Google Ads, LSAs, and Angi in 2026
| Channel | 2026 cost | Exclusive to you | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Search Ads | $8.33 a click, $90.92 a lead (WordStream) | Yes | Same week |
| Contractor search ads | $5.31 a click, $165.67 a lead (LocaliQ) | Yes | Same week |
| Local Services Ads | Per valid lead, no public rate card | No, buyer contacts several | Days |
| Shared directories | $87 to $142 a lead (client-reported) | No, sold to 3 to 5 pros | Same day |
| SEO | $1,500 to $3,500 a month | Yes | 4 to 9 months |
Ads buy speed. SEO buys ownership. Most remodelers under $2M should run both for the first year, then shift the ad budget down as organic fills in.
There is more detail in our breakdown of how to split budget between Google Ads and SEO.
How many city pages you need, and what they cost
Google lets a service-area business list up to 20 service areas, and says the boundaries should not stretch past about 2 hours of driving.
That does not mean build 20 pages. Build one page per city you would actually drive to for a $30,000 job, and make each one different.
Content is usually billed hourly. Home Remodeler SEO publishes $110 an hour on its public price page, which is a reasonable check against any quote you get.
A real city page takes 3 to 5 hours once you include the local proof, the photos, and the internal linking. Ten cities is a quarter of work, not a week.
City pages only pay off if the profile behind them is clean. Start with Google Business Profile optimization for remodelers.
What happens when you stop paying
Some of it stays and some of it goes.
Your Google Business Profile stays. Your reviews stay. Your backlinks stay. Your pages stay, if the agency built them on your domain and handed over the accounts.
What decays is position, because competitors keep publishing and you stop. I have never seen a credible published decay curve for local remodeling, so I am not going to invent one for you. What I can tell you is that the sites that hold up longest are the ones where the client owned every asset from day one.
Ask any agency this before you sign: if I leave in month 7, what do I keep? Get the answer in writing.
What Eclipse Remodeling charges
We run one remodeler per city, month to month, no long contract.
Pricing depends on your market and your scope, so I am not going to publish a number that would be wrong for half the people reading this. A single-city remodeler and a six-city operator are not buying the same work.
What I will do is run your city against the tables above, on a call, before you spend anything.
We back target-keyword rankings with a top-three guarantee within 12 months, full terms provided during onboarding. 14 of our 18 current clients hit the top three before month 9.
If I have to lock you into a contract to get paid, it is not a longterm business.

Frequently asked questions
How much does SEO cost for a remodeling company per month?
$1,500 to $3,500 a month covers most single-metro remodelers in 2026. HomeShowOff publishes that range for remodeling, and Ahrefs’ survey of 439 providers puts the average local-focused retainer at $1,557. Multi-city and top-25 metro work runs $2,500 to $4,000 or higher.
Is there a remodeling-specific SEO pricing survey?
No. Ahrefs and Backlinko both surveyed SEO providers without breaking out verticals, and no named survey covers remodeling retainers. Every remodeling-specific price you see published is an agency rate card.
How long before remodeling SEO produces leads?
Keywords usually start moving in 30 to 60 days. Map pack entry averages 4.2 months in a mid-competition metro and 6.8 months in a top-25 metro. Across our campaigns, 78% of clients reach the map pack within 6 months, with steady inbound leads by month 6 to 9.
Why should I judge SEO over 12 months instead of 90 days?
Because your buyer takes longer than that to decide. Houzz surveyed 17,713 homeowners and found the average kitchen planning phase runs 9.6 months. A 90-day attribution window misses most of the jobs SEO actually assisted.
Is SEO cheaper than Google Ads for remodelers?
Per lead, yes, once you rank, because organic leads cost nothing beyond your monthly plan. Before that, no. WordStream puts home improvement Google Ads leads at $90.92 and LocaliQ puts contractor leads at $165.67, and both start producing the same week you turn them on.
Do I need a new website before I start SEO?
Often, yes. Across the remodeling sites we audit, 94% have title tag problems, 68% have no schema, and 41% score below 40 for mobile speed. Fixing those as a one-time project is cheaper than paying a retainer to work around them.
How many city pages does a remodeler need?
One per city you would drive to for a real job. Google allows up to 20 service areas and caps sensible boundaries at about 2 hours of driving, but 5 to 10 well-built pages beat 20 thin ones.
What do I keep if I cancel?
You should keep your site, domain, content, Google Business Profile, ad accounts, and every backlink. Ask for that in writing before you sign. If an agency will not put it in the contract, that tells you what you needed to know.
